Job summary

Singular Genomics in San Diego, CA seeks a Research Associate on the Histology team. You will maintain FFPE tissue blocks, assist with developing our tissue mounting system, and advise assay developers on controls, workflows, and interpretation of results.

Ideal candidates hold a B.Sc. in Biochemistry/biomedical sciences with 2–3+ years histology and 1–2 years microtomy experience, plus familiarity with IHC/ISH/IF and fluorescence readouts across tissue types.

Qualifications

• B.Sc. in Biochemistry/biomedical sciences or related field required, plus 2–3+ years histology experience.
• 1–2 years microtomy experience required.
• Hands-on precision microtomy to minimize tissue loss of precious samples.
• Experience with molecular pathology assays (IHC/ISH/IF) on preserved tissue and various tissue types preferred.

Responsibilities

• Operate a microtome to produce consistent FFPE tissue sections.
• Provide expert guidance on tissue handling, experimental design, and interpretation of results.
• QC FFPE tissues prior to use in assay development.
• Contribute to optimizing in situ workflows.
• Establish standards for onboarding and assessing tissue type performance.
• Collaborate with cross-disciplinary teams in chemistry, biochemistry, systems integration, image analysis, and bioinformatics.
• Maintain meticulous notes and reagent/experiment databases.
• Contribute to writing SOPs and documentation.

Position Summary:

As aResearch Associateon the Histology team, you will?be the foundation of?platform?development by maintaining and sectioning FFPE tissue blocks;?support?development of our proprietary tissue mounting system; use your background knowledge in histology and molecular diagnostics?to identify?controls, workflows, and?enhancements to improve?assay robustness and reliability;?aid in expanding our assays?to new tissue types, and provide guidance and expert advice?to assay developers for interpreting results and expectations, and?be the voice of histology when working with customers and collaborators.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in FFPE tissue sectioning and assessment using?traditional?histochemical staining such as H&E, familiarity in?molecular?assays?on preserved tissue?(e.g., IHC,?IF,?ISH/FISH) using a variety of microscopy readouts (brightfield, fluorescence etc.), and be comfortable following established complex assay workflows.

You will be working with a multidisciplinary team of scientists in the fields of surface chemistry, engineering, biochemistry,and bioinformatics.This role is ideally suited to a candidate who is self-motivated and excited by a startup environment where opportunity to rise to frequent and diverse challenges is commonly encountered.

• Establish standards for onboarding and assessing performance of standard and new tissue types?.
• Collaboration and effective communication with team members in (surface) chemistry, biochemistry, systems integration, image analysis, and bioinformatics.
• Maintain meticulous notes and databases of relevant reagents, experiments, equipment, and other processes.
• Contribute to writing SOPs and other documentation.

Qualifications:

• B.Sc. in Biochemistry/biomedical sciences or related field plus 2-3+ years of histology experience.
• 1-2 years of microtomy experience.?
• Hands on experience in precision microtomy with a focus on minimizing tissue loss of precious samples.??
• Understanding of healthy and diseased clinical samples?is a plus.
• Working knowledge of fluorescence microscopy is a plus.??
• Experience with molecular pathology assays (e.g., immunohistochemistry, in situ hybridization, immunofluorescence) and performance in different tissue types. Experience with multiplexed assays is strongly preferred.?

The estimated base salary range for this role based in the United States of America is:$74,900 - $88,100. Additionally, this role is eligible for to receive equity as part of the compensation package. Compensation decisions are dependent on several factors including, but not limited to, an individual’s qualifications, location where the role is to be performed, internal equity, and alignment with market data. Should the level of the role change during the hiring process, the applicable salary range may be updated accordingly.
