Company Overview

Molecule Ventures is a climate-focused investment firm trading within environmental markets, particularly compliance carbon markets. Our first fund invests in the California cap-and-trade program, which puts a price on CO₂e emissions, internalizing the cost of pollution and driving investment into low-carbon technologies. Our second fund has broader flexibility to invest across carbon and other environmental markets globally. The firm was founded in 2020 by a New York-based team and currently manages over $425M.

The team is comprised of professionals with extensive backgrounds in climate, energy, and finance. Our mission is to attract more private capital towards low-carbon solutions by generating above market returns for our investors. The firm is a supporter of 1% for the Planet and numerous climate and environmental justice organizations.

Job Description

We are seeking an individual eager to focus on environmental markets and climate policy with a demonstrated commitment to sustainability and the energy transition. The ideal candidate will have a strong analytical background and feel comfortable evaluating policy, manipulating data, and distilling sophisticated topics into a succinct format. Experience in environmental markets is highly preferred.

This is a full-time contracted position for 1-2 years, with potential for a full-time hire thereafter. The key responsibilities for the role include:

Environmental Markets Research. Conduct research to identify new markets for investment opportunities and provide coverage of markets with existing allocations.

• Fundamental Analysis. Develop and maintain proprietary supply-demand models for compliance carbon markets and other environmental markets. Translate modeling insights into investment and trading strategies.
• Policy & News Coverage. Monitor market developments and incorporate findings into fundamental analysis. Analyze and track market-specific regulations, legislative processes, and political developments to evaluate risks and identify price catalysts.

Preferred Qualifications

• 2-4 years of experience in environmental markets, climate policy, and/or related areas of sustainable / energy finance.
• A firm understanding of energy systems and the energy transition.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (particularly Excel and PowerPoint).
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Basic understanding of commodity markets and futures trading (professional experience not required).
