Neural / Biomedical / Electrical Engineer, Head of the Bioelectronics Laboratory at The Feinstein Institutes

Are you interested in developing the next generation of neuromodulation devices?

The Bioelectronics Laboratory at the Feinstein Institutes for Medical Research is looking to hire a highly motivated individual to lead the development of best practices for pre-clinical surgical approaches for the use of implantable neuromodulation devices. You will be working closely with a team of engineers and scientists to optimize all aspects of the use and design of wireless implantable closed-loop neuromodulation devices, including surgical techniques, neural interfaces, electronic hardware, software, user interfaces, and encapsulation. You will be responsible for independently performing benchtop and in vivo studies to test and evaluate implantable devices for neuro-stimulation and recording. You will also collaborate with other Investigators and scientists to plan and execute the design of new scientific studies.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Optimize surgical approaches for chronic implantation of next-generation devices.
  • Be responsible for device deployment and maintenance across multiple collaborative projects.
  • Provide research and technical expertise in the design, selection of material/components, development, testing, and evaluation of novel implantable neuromodulation devices.
  • Analyze electrical and physiological responses to neuromodulation.
  • Perform experiments, collect data, analyze results, draft reports, and present findings to colleagues and leadership for review.
  • Design and perform statistically relevant studies to inform the evolution of device design.
  • Maintain databases, equipment, and infrastructure in the bioelectronics laboratory.
  • Attend scientific and technical meetings, participate in the writing of abstracts, manuscripts and grant applications.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelors Degree in Neuroscience, Biomedical Engineering, Materials Science or a related field.
  • Required Experience: Prior pre-clinical research including surgery and the design and execution of experimental protocols.
  • Preferred qualifications, Master’s Degree.
  • Preferred experience: neural stimulation, neural recording, collection and interpretation of electrophysiological data.
