Research Associate

Kleberg Wildlife Research Institute, Texas A&M University – Kingsville, Texas (Remote in Leakey, TX)

Position Overview

Performs independent or supervisory roles in research activities requiring an advanced level of knowledge in a field of science and outreach. Requires consistent use of discretion and judgment, ability to work independently and within a team. Responsibilities include preparing proposals, operating research equipment, assisting graduate students, working with landowners to maximize research partnerships.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Design, plan, conduct, and coordinate fieldwork to support research projects.
  • Evaluate, select, and apply standard techniques for routine research activities.
  • Maintain detailed and accurate records of research data and field operations.
  • Utilize computers, laboratory and technical equipment for data management and analysis.
  • Conduct statistical analyses and technical evaluations of research experiments and results.
  • Interpret findings to ensure data integrity and accuracy.
  • Summarize research results for scientific publications and client‑oriented outreach.
  • Prepare written materials for scientific audiences and outreach.
  • Write proposals for funding agencies and monitor financial accounts associated with research projects.
  • Develop outreach materials and coordinate outreach events; network with local landowners to support research projects.
Required Qualifications
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in an applicable field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience: Two years of related experience.
  • Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Familiarity with field and technical equipment, especially camera traps; effective use of computer and software for databases, statistical analyses, data presentation; multitasking and cooperative teamwork.
Physical Requirements

Ability to perform strenuous field work, particularly in high heat.

Other Requirements and Factors
  • May require work beyond normal office hours and/or weekends.
  • Position is security sensitive.
  • Requires export‑control authorization before employment.
  • Compliance with state and federal laws, codes, and Texas A&M University System policies and procedures.
  • Safety: All tasks must be performed safely without injury to self or others, in accordance with university safety requirements.
