Theoverall aim of this research will be to investigate ectopicexpression of airway mucin MUC5B in alveolar epithelial cells andto determine the mechanisms that lead to lung fibrosis. Theresearch associate will use small-molecule and geneticknockdown/overexpression approaches to manipulate expression ofMUC5B gene and relevant transcription factors. The researchassociate will induce perturbations into 3D culture models toreproduce molecular profile of epithelial cells observed infibrotic lungs. The research associate will assay the resultsthrough multi-omics experiments. The research associate willcombine experimental and computational approaches to investigatealveolar cell plasticity and to control cell fates. Our ultimategoal is to understand the early mechanistic determinants of lungfibrosis and to alter trajectories of cells development to preventprogression of fibrosis.
