Job description

The Texas Tech University (TTU) School of Veterinary Medicine (SVM) is seeking to fill a non-tenure track faculty position to expand our world-class medical communication research associated with our vibrant veterinary medical education program in Amarillo, TX. We invite applications for a full-time, 12-month, non-tenure track Research Assistant Professor of Practice appointment, with a start date of September 1, 2025.

At the School of Veterinary Medicine, research informs delivery of an evidenced-based medical curriculum and advancing the sciences in support of, and adjacent to, veterinary medicine. In addition to the veterinary medical education program, the School is home to the One Health Sciences PhD program (the first in the US) and a MS in Veterinary Sciences. These two programs represent the School’s commitment to collaborative, interdisciplinary and interprofessional health-related research activities, and excellence in comparative medicine.

This position seeks to expand research capabilities in andragogical scholarship with a focus on clinical medical communication and medical education. Essential functions of the appointment include contribution to the TTU SVM’s mission through scholarly activities, including:

  • Developing research grant proposals related to clinical communications and medical education;
  • Collaborating with faculty of the SVM, TTU, TTU Health Sciences Center, and beyond to enhance the SVM’s research portfolio;
  • Mentoring of veterinary medical students engaged in research as part of the Veterinary Research Scholars Program (VRSP);
  • Assisting in carrying out the research activities of the communications and medical education research group, such as helping mentor master’s and doctoral students, engaging in data collection and analysis, and supporting development of scholarly outputs; and
  • Developing an individual program of research in veterinary medical education and clinical communications.

  • The curriculum is grounded on general veterinary practice in rural and regional communities, and preparing students to be successful in their clinical year and as clinicians upon graduation.
  • There will be opportunities to actively participate in delivery of the clinical communications curriculum, and to pursue professional development as a veterinary medical educator.
