Description

The University of Chicago's Department of Neurobiology is searching for a Research Assistant Professor whose primary activity will be academic research in association with a faculty member or team. The appointee will be responsible for preparing samples for X-ray and electron microscopy (EM) imaging (e.g., animal perfusions, tissue fixation and staining, ultra-thin sectioning, and operating microscopes to collect image series), analyzing the resulting datasets, writing manuscripts, and applying for grants both as a member of the larger team and for independent funding. Thus, we welcome applicants with experience in large volume serial electron microscopy (connectomics), synchrotron source X-ray imaging of brains in health and disease, and experience in the algorithms used to analyze these datasets. The appointee will ultimately create an independent research effort with dedicated extramural funding that complements existing strengths within our academic community. Compensation (including a generous package of fringe benefits) depends on qualifications. For information on benefits, please consult the University of Chicago Benefits Guide: https://mybenefits.nfp.com/UChicago/benefits-guide/.

Prior to the start of employment, applicants must 1) have a doctoral degree or equivalent in Biological Sciences, Biomedical Sciences, or a related discipline, and 2) have completed postdoctoral training.

Publication record and ability to obtain extramural grants will also be considered.
