Job summary

Boston Children’s Hospital seeks a Research Assistant II to support a range of laboratory experiments and data analysis for ongoing research projects. The candidate should have a bachelor’s degree with at least three years of relevant experience or a Master’s degree with one year of experience, plus at least one year of research experience.

Responsibilities

• Independently select appropriate techniques for specific experiments and perform them with minimal supervision.
• Critically evaluate experimental results and summarize interpretations for the PI.
• Assist and supervise RA I/II and interns in basic lab techniques.
• Coach junior staff and students on laboratory methods.
• Record, graph, and analyze data using statistical tools and maintain logs.

Job description

Position Summary

Under minimal supervision, performs a variety of routine and specialized laboratory experimental, specimen preparations and experimental procedures for the purpose of research. Utilizes specialized laboratory equipment and analysis of data generated by this equipment. May contribute to experimental design.

Key Responsibilities

• Independently decides which techniques may be appropriate for specific experimental investigations and carries out those experiments with minimal supervision or independently.
• Critically evaluates experimental results independently and provides summaries or interpretation of results to PI.
• RA II plus under minimal supervision. Contributes to the team within and between departments and organizations.
• Coaches RA I and RA II, interns, Co Ops on basic lab techniques.
• Calculates, graphs and compiles data obtained, maintaining records and logs of work performed; uses computer to perform statistical analyses.

Minimum Experience
Education:

• Bachelor's degree, AND a minimum three years of relevant experience OR Master's of Science AND one year of relevant work experience.

Experience:

• At least one year of relevant research experience
