Research Assistant II - Microbiology And Molecular Genetics (Finance)

Position Summary:

Under the general direction of senior research staff, conducts activities to support research projects. Exercises judgment within defined procedures and practices.

Position Key Accountabilities:

  1. Conducts research activities, under general direction, according to research protocols. Activities may include patient recruiting and screening, traditional laboratory experiments, informatics, field interviewer recruiting, screening, training, and/or work in animal laboratories.
  2. Maintains adequate levels of lab supplies to ensure timely completion of research activities.
  3. Maintains accurate and timely records, including notebooks, databases, and other documentation as required by the research project.
  4. Monitors laboratory and other supplies to ensure sufficient inventory and the quality of reagents or supplies.
  5. Stays updated on new and revised protocols for the research department.
  6. Coordinates the work of laboratory technicians, support staff, and assistants as needed to ensure efficient, timely, and high-quality results. Resolves routine or complex issues that arise.
  7. Ensures compliance with all governmental and university policies, rules, regulations, and codes.
  8. Participates in continuing education, workshops, and seminars as needed.
  9. Performs other duties as assigned.

Certification/Skills:

  • Basic knowledge and some detailed understanding of the assigned research field.

Minimum Education:

  • Bachelor's degree or relevant experience in lieu of formal education.

Minimum Experience:

  • At least one year of related experience in a research or clinical laboratory environment.
  • Equivalent years of education beyond the minimum requirement may substitute for experience.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to exert up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, 10 pounds frequently, and up to 10 pounds constantly to move objects. This position may involve work with potentially hazardous chemical, biological, or radioactive agents.

Security Sensitive:

This position may be classified as security sensitive and is subject to the provisions of Texas Education Code § 51.215.

Residency Requirement:

Employees must permanently reside and work in the State of Texas.
