Job summary

Loyola University Chicago is seeking a Research Assistant I (Part-Time) in Maywood for Greer’s Lab to assist with complex experiments, data collection, and analysis. The role supports a busy pharmacology research environment with emphasis on safety, accuracy, and collaboration.

The successful candidate will have a Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) and may have 1–2 years of related experience; familiarity with lab protocols and Microsoft Office is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Carry out complex experiments and procedures under the PI's direction, including animal, tissue, or cell work.
• Independently perform lab techniques, may design experiments and assist in manuscript writing or presentations.
• Analyze experimental results and conduct literature searches; adapt protocols as directed.
• Train and supervise medical and graduate students and other lab users; maintain safety and compliance.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Carry out complex experiments and technical procedures as directed by Principle Investigator (PI) involving surgery on animals, tissue or cell cultures, and making direct experimental measurements.
• Independently perform experimental techniques and operate specialized equipment required to complete the project. May set up experimental design and lab technique. May assist in writing scientific manuscripts and presenting at
• meetings.
• Perform in-depth analysis of experimental results. Perform literature searches on computer and retrieve literature from library. Assist in modifying specific protocols and methodology.
• Implement experiments and perform lab techniques specific to lab and in accordance with direction from individual PI.
• Train and provide oversight of medical and graduate students, junior lab staff, and other lab users.
• Ensure lab environment complies with safety regulations and may assume partial responsibility for safety in the lab. Maintain a safe and orderly lab environment.
• Monitors the inventory of essential lab supplies and may assist in ordering additional supplies when required. Maintains orderly records of purchases.

Minimum Education and/or Work Experience

Education Required: Bachelors Degree OR equivalent training acquired via work experience or education
