How You Will Contribute

The Research Assistant, American Silver Catalogue will work in the American Art Department in support of forthcoming volumes of the catalogue, American Silver in the Philadelphia Museum of Art. More specifically, this individual will conduct and verify research and write craftsmen’s biographies for volumes 3 through 4.

Specifically, you will:

  • Review and verify information in archival, published, and online sources
  • Compare existing research notes with information in object folders, registrar’s records, and the TMS database
  • Conduct additional research in local and regional archives
  • Write biographies of artists and entries for objects featured in the catalogue
  • Serve as liaison between American Art and Publications
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Your background and experience include:

  • Master’s degree in American decorative arts or related field or equivalent experience
  • Demonstrated research and writing skills
  • Familiarity with archival research in particular

Position And Compensation Details

  • The hourly rate for this position is $22.41
  • This position is full-time, non-exempt, and 35 hours per week
  • This position is part of the AFSCME Local 397 bargaining unit.
  • This position reports to The H. Richard Dietrich, Jr., Curator of American Decorative Arts.
  • This is a one-year term position beginning 7/1/2025 and ending 6/30/2026
  • Physical requirements:
    • Able to remain stationary for extended periods of time, to utilize computers and other office equipment required of this job, to perform physically administrative duties in a typical interior office environment, gallery, or exhibit space, and to access most public and staff areas of the museum campus
  • Background check required after a conditional job offer is made. Consideration of the background check will be tailored to the requirements of the job
