Position Summary

This recruitment will be used to fill one (1) part-time (a maximum of 24 hours per week) Research Assistant – Advertising & Consumer Culture Research position for the School of Marketing/Design/Analytics at Oregon State University ( OSU ).

This is a part-time Research Assistant (RA) position. The RA will work an average of 5 hours a week under the supervision of OSU Marketing faculty Aimee Huff to collect, catalogue, and analyze data for a research project on advertising and consumer culture. The project is expected to run June 2025 to June 2026, with a possibility to extend further.

Position Duties

The RA will be responsible for collecting, cataloguing, and analyzing data in the faculty member’s data set. This work includes: reviewing media (eg, print magazines, websites) to identify ads that meet certain criteria; scanning or downloading the ad images; naming and cataloging the image files; uploading the image files to the data analysis software; coding the image files. The work can be completed remotely on the RA’s computer. The RA will also need to meet regularly with the faculty advisor, either in-person or online.

  • Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of study
  • Must meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment
  • Must meet the applicable minimal enrollment standard
    • High School student: Regularly enrolled in a high school or participating in a home-schooling program
    • Undergraduate and post-baccalaureate student: 6 credit hours per term
    • Undergraduate international student: 12 credit hours per term*
    • Graduate student officially admitted to Graduate School: 5 credit hours per term
    • Graduate international student officially admitted to Graduate School: 9 credit hours per term*

*International students may be allowed to carry fewer hours than specified above and still be considered “full-time” by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services ( USCIS ). A reduced course load is approved by the Office of International Services ( OIS ), and must be provided to the Student Employment Center.

Additional Required Qualifications

Excellent skills organizing digital files and images. Proficiency with basic functions in Word, Excel, and web-based software. Motivation to meet research goals and deadlines.

Preferred (Special) Qualifications

Interest in qualitative research and data analysis. Experience using data analysis software. Registered as an on-campus Corvallis student or able to meet on-campus occasionally.

Working Conditions / Work Schedule

Approximately 85% of the work can be completed remotely and on days and times chosen by the RA. Approximately 5% of the work involves bi-weekly check-ins with the faculty member, either in-person or on Zoom. Approximately 10% of the work must be completed in the faculty member’s lab, on the Corvallis campus of OSU , during operating hours of Austin Hall.
