Job summary

Parnall Law invites applications for a Research and Writing Attorney to support our trial team in New Mexico. This role emphasizes high-quality legal research and drafting to maximize client outcomes, working with multiple case teams and trial attorneys.

The ideal candidate holds an active NM license or is eligible for admission, with strong research and writing skills, and experience drafting motions and briefs in personal injury or civil litigation. Remote eligibility is available.

Qualifications

• Active license to practice law in New Mexico, or eligibility for admission.
• Strong legal research, analysis, and writing skills, with ability to translate research into persuasive, well-supported drafts.
• Experience drafting motions, briefs, memoranda, and other litigation documents.
• Personal injury or civil litigation experience preferred; insurance defense or appellate background is a plus.
• Ability to work collaboratively with trial attorneys and Team Leads across multiple case teams and manage competing deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Provide legal research and drafting to support trial attorneys’ advocacy for injured clients.
• Draft motions, responses, briefs, and legal memoranda for pre-litigation and litigation teams.
• Support case strategy with research to anticipate arguments and strengthen positions.
• Deliver timely, well-supported written work product and ensure efficient case progression.

Who Are We Looking For? (Requirements)

• Active license to practice law in New Mexico, or eligibility for admission.
• Strong legal research, analysis, and writing skills, with the ability to translate research into persuasive, well-supported drafts.

Your Role

As a Research & Writing Attorney, you will provide the legal analysis and drafting that support our trial attorneys’ mission: maximizing recovery for the value of our clients’ harm and the wrong that caused it. You will be a key member of a team dedicated to making a meaningful impact for injured clients across New Mexico.

Duties / Responsibilities

Legal Research:

• Research New Mexico and applicable law on liability, damages, coverage, and procedural issues arising in personal injury and premises liability matters.
• Monitor and summarize developments in New Mexico case law, statutes, and court rules relevant to the firm’s practice.

Drafting:

• Prepare motions, responses, briefs, and legal memoranda in support of pre-litigation and litigation case teams.
• Draft discovery-related legal analysis and assist with pleadings as needed.

Case Strategy Support:

• Collaborate with trial attorneys and Team Leads to identify legal issues, anticipate defense arguments, and strengthen case positions.
• Provide research support for settlement negotiations, mediation, and trial preparation.

General Responsibilities:

• Deliver timely, well-supported written work product that meets firm quality standards.
• Collaborate effectively with attorneys and staff to ensure cases move efficiently through the process.
