Job summary

Analysis Group is seeking a Research & Knowledge Specialist to join the Research & Knowledge Services (RKS) team in Boston. You will conduct legal and business research, summarize findings, and produce actionable insights for consultants, practice groups, and firm leadership.

You will collaborate across firm functions, improve workflows, and explore AI-enabled efficiencies in document review and information extraction.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Minimum of 3 years of substantive relevant experience required.
  • 4 to 6 years of professional experience in legal research or related environment preferred.
  • Strong familiarity with legal research, litigation dockets, and court filings required.
  • Experience with major legal research platforms listed above required.
  • Ability to locate difficult-to-find information and adapt research strategies.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct legal, litigation, and business development research using internal and external tools.
  • Locate, review, and summarize expert materials and litigation documents.
  • Prepare clear research outputs, including matter summaries and legal trends.
  • Identify opportunities to leverage research assets for business development and intelligence.

  • Proactively surface gaps and improve repository maintenance and workflows.

The Research & Knowledge Services (RKS) team partners with case teams, business functions, and firm leadership to generate intelligence that supports litigation-related research, competitive analysis, and market insights. The team sits within the Marketing & Business Development (MBD) department and collaborates closely with colleagues across the firm.

Our team is looking for a highly motivated research professional with strong analytical instincts, a command of legal and business databases, and the ability to synthesize complex information into clear, actionable outputs. The Specialist will conduct a wide range of research requests — spanning expert witness materials, court filings, legal trends, and competitor intelligence — on behalf of individual consultants, practice groups, and the firm. They will actively contribute to the internal systems and workflows that make research outputs reusable and accessible over time. The role requires intellectual curiosity, creativity and enjoyment in solving intricate research questions, exceptional attention to detail and accuracy, and strong judgment in assessing the relevance and credibility of research results.

Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities
  • Expert Witness Research and Legal Research Support
    • Evaluate incoming research requests to clarify scope, objectives, and expected deliverables.
    • Conduct legal, litigation, and business development research using internal and external tools, including CourtLink, Bloomberg Law, LexisNexis, Westlaw, CRM systems, SharePoint, expert materials repositories, and other knowledge management resources.
    • Locate, review, and summarize publicly available expert witness materials and litigation documents, including reports, testimony, motions, and related filings.
    • Prepare clear, concise research outputs, including litigation histories, matter summaries, legal trends summaries, and competitor insights.
    • Identify opportunities to leverage expert materials and related research assets for business development, competitive intelligence, practice development, litigation trend analysis, and knowledge sharing.
  • Workflow and Systems Improvements
    • Help evaluate and refine workflows for locating, reviewing, storing, annotating, and reusing expert materials and related litigation documents.
    • Maintain and improve databases, trackers, CRM records, and other internal systems to support information organization, data quality, retrieval, and reuse.
    • Identify and prototype AI-enabled efficiencies in document review, summarization, tagging, annotation, structured information extraction, and knowledge retrieval workflows.
  • Collaboration and Ownership
    • Collaborate with colleagues across RKS, Marketing & Business Development, practice groups, and other firm functions on research projects, business development efforts, knowledge management priorities, and other marketing-related initiatives.Take ownership of assigned expert research, document retrieval, repository maintenance, and recurring service responsibilities.
    • Proactively surface questions, gaps, and opportunities to improve the usefulness, reliability, and accessibility of RKS outputs.
    • Over time, develop a proactive role in shaping expert research best practices, identifying emerging needs, and recommending ways to leverage and improve existing resources.
Qualifications

  • Minimum of 3 years of substantive relevant experience required.
  • An ideal candidate will have 4 to 6 years of professional experience in legal research, litigation support, law firm library or research services, or a related environment.
  • Strong familiarity with legal research, litigation dockets, and court filings required.
  • Experience with legal research platforms such as CourtLink, Bloomberg Law, LexisNexis, Westlaw, Lex Machina, Law360, or similar resources required.
  • Demonstrated intellectual curiosity, persistence, and creativity in locating difficult-to-find information, including the ability to adapt research strategies when standard sources or processes do not produce complete results.
  • Comfort working on research questions that may not have a clear step-by-step path, including the ability to identify leads, test alternative sources, and evaluate relevance.
  • Strong judgment, analytical reasoning, problem-solving ability, and attention to detail.
  • Proven ability to organize, plan, and manage multiple projects simultaneously while remaining flexible in response to shifting priorities and deadlines.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to summarize legal and expert-related research findings clearly for different audiences.
  • Self-motivated, collaborative, and eager to learn, contribute, and take ownership of assignments.
  • Exposure to Generative AI tools or large language model-based workflows for document review or information extraction is a plus.
  • Experience with CRM or knowledge management systems preferred.

Analysis Group offers competitive compensation and a comprehensive benefits package. The estimated salary range for this position is $80,000–$92,500. Compensation offered will be based on a number of factors including work experience, education, and skill level.
