Job summary

BioPhase Inc. in San Diego, CA, is seeking an experienced lab technician to design, execute and document cultivation and fermentation experiments across multiple platforms, including microplates and shake-flasks. This role supports reproducible workflows and process robustness.

You will work with cross‑functional teams to optimize media, growth and productivity, maintain SOPs, and ensure careful sample handling and data recording for reliable results.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Biochemistry, Bioengineering, Microbiology, Chemical Engineering or related field.
• 2+ years of relevant experience.
• Hands-on experience with cell culture, fermentation, or microbial systems.
• Experience independently designing, executing and troubleshooting optimization experiments.
• Comfort with aseptic technique, media and buffer preparation.
• Strong attention to detail, organization and documentation practices.
• Effective communicator with the ability to clearly present experimental results.

Responsibilities

• Design, execute, record, analyze and document cultivation and fermentation experiments across multiple platforms.
• Execute optimization studies – media development, growth and productivity studies, condition screens – with increasing independence, and troubleshoot experiments.
• Develop and refine standard operating procedures (SOPs) for new and existing workflows.
• Prepare, sterilize and optimize growth media, buffers and reagents.
• Perform routine analytics and sample handling in support of cultivation experiments (e.g. OD and growth measurements, sampling, sample preparation and submission).
• Analyze and present experimental results clearly, and record work to a standard that lets others reproduce it.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with associates, scientists and engineers to ensure reproducibility, scalability and process robustness.
• Maintain laboratory organization, equipment readiness, and inventory of consumables.

• Execute optimization studies — media development, growth and productivity studies, condition screens —with increasing independence, and troubleshoot experiments that don't behave as expected
• Develop and refine standard operating procedures (SOPs) for new and existing workflows
• Prepare, sterilize and optimize growth media, buffers and reagents
• Perform routine analytics and sample handling in support of cultivation experiments (e.g. OD and growth measurements, sampling, sample preparation and submission)

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
