Job summary

Socket.dev in Hayward, CA is seeking a full-time on-site Research and Development Engineer to contribute to medical device engineering across bench testing, sustaining product lines, verification and validation, and process improvements.

You will collaborate with a cross-functional team to meet Quality Management System requirements and timelines, design verification tests and CAD models, build prototypes, and support clinical studies and evaluations at sites as needed.

Qualifications

• Experience with medical device development life cycles.
• 3D modeling with 2D dimensioning and tolerancing.
• Proficiency in CAD software; SolidWorks or Fusion 360 preferred.

Responsibilities

Job description

This is a full-time on-site role for a Research and Development Engineer. The role is located in Hayward.

The engineer will participate in all facets of medical device engineering, supporting a full range of activities such as: bench testing new product development, sustaining current product lines, verification and validation, and process improvement activities.

The engineer will work closely with a cross-functional team to support existing product and new product development. Products developed are done so in accordance with the Quality Management System and company objectives and timelines.

Job Duties:

• Support senior members of the engineering team in benchtesting new product development
• Design verification test methods, test fixtures, and execute verification test methods.
• Compile test data, perform statistical analysis, and document results in reports.
• Contribute to the design of new products, including developing CAD models, drawings, and specifications.
• Build prototypes and solve problems.
• Interact with physicians and nurses at clinical sites to support clinical studies and/or product evaluations.

Preferred Qualifications and Work Experience:

• Be familiar with medical device development life cycles and manufacturing processes and technologies.
• 3D Modeling experience along with 2D dimensioning and tolerancing.
• Proficiency in CAD software and other design tools. Experience with Solidworks and/or Fusion 360 is a plus.
• Experience in designing and testing prototypes.
• Electromechanical and programming experience are valued.
• Experience with statistical techniques.
• Willingness to travel to support product lines at Contract Manufacturers overseas.

Minimum Requirements and Education:

• Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in engineering field.
• Ability to focus on and achieve scheduled benchmarks.
• Strong team-work and communication skills.
• A drive to get the job done in the face of obstacles and time constraints, and a willingness to jump in wherever needed.
