Overview

Knowledge plays a vital role at Hogan Lovells. The strategic purpose of the Knowledge team is to ensure that all those involved in delivering legal advice to clients have access to the knowledge and information required to deliver a technically excellent, efficient service; to devise new and innovative ways of sharing that knowledge with clients as part of client relationship management; to input knowledge into the firm’s continuous process improvement initiatives around legal service delivery; and to ensure that the firm is harnessing new technology to support those objectives.

The Research Services team forms part of the Knowledge function. The team supports the firm’s excellence in service delivery and quality, and continues to support the efficiency and effectiveness of our lawyers. The Research Analyst will support our West Coast region, aligning with West Coast hours, and reports to the Research Services Manager U.S, who is based in our Washington, D.C office.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Provide high-quality substantive research and reference assistance to attorneys using a range of legal, business and news online and print resources.

  • Deliver research skills, orientation and database training as required to lawyers and business teams.

  • Experience with patent and trademark research. The ideal candidate will bring demonstrated experience in IP research and familiarity with a range of specialized tools such as Derwent Innovation, USPTO databases, and other IP resources. Knowledge of global IP filings, prosecution histories, and litigation analytics is highly desirable.

  • Ability to conduct legislative and regulatory research tasks across multiple practice areas

  • Act as a practice research liaison for one or more practice groups. Provide orientations and training, promote and raise awareness of research tools and services.

  • Develop and maintain knowledge of the available resources online and in print. Stay aware of new products in the research space, working to advance the firm's innovation in the use of AI legal research tools.

  • Maintain research guides across subject areas to support attorneys and publicize research tools.

  • Share knowledge and learning with colleagues in the US and global team and within internal knowledge solutions such as team wikis and knowledge databases.

  • Participate and promote current awareness provision for attorneys and business team as required; utilize team resources to identify and deliver alerting solutions.

  • Participate in the identification and review, trial/pilot, training and marketing of research products to lawyers;

  • Develop and maintain relationships with lawyers and business team members at all levels of the business to promote the Research Services team.

  • All members of the firm are expected to participate in our Global Responsible Business program.

  • Submit daily timekeeping reports with reference to client, business development and other administrative matters.

  • Meet or exceed billable hour requirements as established annually.

  • Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATIONS AND/OR EXPERIENCE
  • Two (2) to five (5) years of relevant experience required.

  • Previous law firm library experience in a research capacity is highly desirable.

  • Master of Library Science from an ALA-accredited school preferred.

  • Knowledge and search experience on a range of legal and business research databases and resources, their functionality, and content.

HOURS

This position is open for recruitment in all offices, but is targeted to fit the need for coverage of West Coast hours. The expected work shift is 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM PT / 12:00 PM – 9:00 PM ET. Must be flexible to work additional hours as needed to fulfill the duties of the role.

  • In Northern Virginia and Washington D.C., the annualized salary range for this position is $85,000 to $100,000.
  • In Baltimore, the annualized salary range for this position is $80,000 to $92,000.
  • In Boston, the annualized salary range for this position is $87,000 to $102,250.
  • In Denver, the annualized salary range for this position is $78,000 to $92,000.
  • In Houston, the annualized salary range for this position is $80,000 to $92,000.
  • In Louisville, the annualized salary range for this position is $76,000 to $88,000.
  • In Minneapolis, the annualized salary range for this position is $82,500 to $95,000.
  • In New York, the annualized salary range for this position is $92,000 to $105,000.
  • In San Francisco and Silicon Valley, the annualized salary range for this position is $97,000 to $105,000.

All annualized salary ranges are dependent on the candidate's overall experience and other job-related factors permitted by law.

Full-time employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus. In addition, full-time employees as well as some part-time employees will be eligible for the firm’s fringe benefits as they currently exist.
