University of Houston System is seeking a senior administrator for the Office of Contracts & Grants in Houston. The role supervises a research administration team, oversees proposal submissions to external funders, and manages cost centers and notices of award, including modifications.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises a team conducting research administrative activities, including setting goals, performance appraisals, staff development, and cross-training
  • Oversees and reviews the proposal submission process to external funding sources and manages cost center and notice of award creation, including modifications
  • Manages departmental outreach and customer service efforts including timely responses to questions from the research community and seeking input from the Director
  • Assists with development and implementation of internal operating procedures, coordinates team activities, and provides work direction as needed
  • Interprets complex Federal and State regulations, sponsor guidelines, and institutional policy related to proposal and award management for faculty and the research community
  • Provides backup to team members and across teams to meet daily operational needs
  • Assists with development, modification, and instruction of research compliance training
  • Assists with internal and external audits pertaining to Contracts and Grants activities
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned

Job description

Department: Office of Contracts & Grants Salary: $75,100 - $95,800 Annual Salary

Responsibilities
  1. Supervises a team conducting research administrative activities, to include setting goals, performance appraisals, staff development, and cross-training.
  2. Oversees and reviews the proposal submission process to external funding sources and manages the process of cost center and notice of award creation, including modifications.
  3. Manages departmental outreach and customer service efforts including the timely response to questions and inquiries from the research community, seeking input from the Director as needed.
  4. Assists with the development and implementation of internal operating procedures, coordinates the work activities within their assigned team, and provides work direction as needed.
  5. Serve as a campus resource to interpret complex Federal and State regulations, sponsor guidelines, and Institutional policy related to proposal and award management activities for faculty and the research community.
  6. Provide backup to team members and across teams, as needed, to meet overall daily operational needs.
  7. Assists with development, modification, and instruction of research compliance training for faculty and staff.
  8. Assists with internal and external audits pertaining to the activities of Contracts and Grants.
  9. Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Education: Requires a thorough understanding of both theoretical and practical aspects of an analytical, technical or professional discipline; or the basic knowledge of more than one professional discipline. Knowledge of the discipline is normally obtained through a formal, directly job-related 4 year degree from a college or university or an equivalent in-depth specialized training program that is directly related to the type of work being performed.
  • Experience: Requires a minimum of seven (7) years of directly job-related experience.
