Sylvania is seeking a Production Choreographer for 2026-2027 to design dance combinations for auditions and guide student dancers. The role requires a CT Certified Teacher and a BA in Music with an Education focus or equivalent experience.

You will collaborate with the production team to select dancers and ensure performances align with the creative vision. Responsibilities include teaching choreography, coordinating callbacks, researching styles, and scheduling one-on-one sessions.

QUALIFICATIONS:

POSITION OBJECTIVE:

Seeking a professional who understands the discipline of choreography and teaching to young students.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Create a dance combination for auditions
2. Work with the production team/audition panel to make callback decisions
3. Work with the production team/audition panel to best select students for specific roles
4. Collaborate with the director, as well as music, lighting, and costume departments to ensure dance can be executed
5. Create movement and dance steps that fit with the mood, music, theme, and that are audience-appropriate
6. Support guide, and explain all steps and formations to dancers
7. Conduct research by watching videos, attending performances, and reading up on different styles to ensure that dance fits the time period, character(s), setting, etc.
8. Scheduling one-on-one sessions and providing extra support where required
9. Showing up on time for all rehearsals, performances, and meetings

TIME REQUIREMENTS:

Auditions (2-4 days = 2 or 3 days for auditions and 1 day for callbacks).

Rehearsal each week (Monday-Thursday) with the cast to teach selected music and accompany them. Subject to change for needs of practice, lost days of school, etc.

Rehearsal times after school until 4:30pm latest.

Extended rehearsal times (Monday-Thursday) the two weeks leading up to the performances.

Preparing, performing and accompanying alternate performances. ie; road-show, various advertising opportunities, award shows, etc. TBD

STIPEND:

$3,117.00

½ to be paid in December 2026 the balance in June 2027
