Job summary

POLITICO invites college students and recent graduates to join its Spring 2027 Reporting Internship in New Jersey. You will cover state legislation, lawmakers, and the governor from Trenton, reporting for both in-state and national audiences.

You'll participate in research, reporting, writing and aggregation, help produce newsletters, and collaborate with a dynamic team to develop enterprise stories while meeting deadlines in a hybrid, 40-hour-per-week schedule (or 20 hours for part-time).

Who You Are

You’re an enterprising and creative journalist eager to report and write for an audience of political and policy junkies. You’re excited to report from the Statehouse in Trenton, covering the state legislative session and Gov. Mikie Sherrill.

What You’ll Do

• Cover legislation, lawmakers, the governor, state agencies and New Jersey politics
• Play a critical role in story creation, newsletters and production, including research, reporting, writing and aggregating
• Contribute to the reporting of a dynamic team covering policy and politics for both in‑state and national audiences

What You’ll Need

• Demonstrated interest in New Jersey politics and policy
• Strong foundational reporting and writing skills
• Excellent news judgment
• Ability to work quickly and efficiently under deadlines
• Entrepreneurial mindset
• Proven experience in a newsroom. At least one professional news media internship or job preferred
