Join to apply for the Reporter I or Reporter II, MPR News role at American Public Media Group.

We are hiring for two positions: Agriculture focus based in Moorhead, MN and Healthcare focus based in Rochester, MN. The roles involve in-depth coverage of local industries and community issues, respectively.

We seek a curious, dynamic reporter passionate about storytelling across media and capable of breaking news. You will join a collaborative team covering Minnesota from regional bureaus, with a focus on your designated community and beat.

This position can be at the Reporter I or II level, depending on experience, within the SAG-AFTRA bargaining unit at MPR News.

Location: Remote, Moorhead, MN, or Rochester, MN
Expected Hourly Range: Reporter I: $30.38 - $36.46; Reporter II: $32.15 - $38.58. Exact rate based on experience and organizational structure.

Application Process: Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship. Open until filled.

Your Responsibilities:

1. Research, report, and write news stories for multiple platforms.
2. Shoot and edit video and photos.
3. Edit audio, record narration, and mix stories.
4. Provide live and taped reports.
5. Develop regional sources and expertise.

Minimum Qualifications:

• BA degree or equivalent experience.
• 2-3 years reporting experience for Level I; 3-5 years for Level II.

Skills and Abilities:

• High journalistic standards, objectivity, and fairness.
• Ability to develop complex stories with analysis.
• Knowledge of current events and audience engagement.
• Proficiency in AP Style and managing multiple assignments.
• Experience in broadcast and digital journalism.
• Collaborative and committed to diversity and inclusion.

Preferred Skills:

• On-air radio experience.
• Data reporting skills.
