Repair Technician I - San Diego
- When surgical instruments are sharpened and working properly, surgeons can focus on providing the best care for their patients. STERIS offers a variety of repair solutions to meet the needs of the Customer including onsite mobile repair services, in house repair lab services, or one of five national repair centers.

- In this position, you will perform surgical instrument inspection, repair, and refurbishment in a field-based setting. Technicians work out of mobile repair trucks at Customer sites and regional labs in more condensed markets. Technicians deliver superior Customer Experience by providing timely and quality repairs to meet compliance standards.
- This role requires daily travel by driving a company vehicle. If offered this position, STERIS will conduct a 7-year driving record check as part of our onboarding process.
- This is a remote-based customer-facing position. To support and service our customers in this territory, candidates must be based in California, with daily commutes to the truck storage facility in La Jolla.
- PLEASE NOTE: This position primarily operates Monday-Friday, with 2-3 Saturday shifts per month, and occasional overnight travel to service accounts several hours away. STERIS covers all travel expenses, and driving time is paid.
What You Will Do
- Perform basic to intermediate inspection and repairs on surgical instrumentation using grinding wheels, buffing wheels, various hand and power tools, soldering, etc. Repair complexity will vary.
- Work in the field on a mobile repair truck, inside a repair lab, or within a hospital, depending on Customer needs within the territory.
- Provide invoicing and documentation as needed.
- Support various locations within the assigned territory based on service agreements, Customer needs, and staffing levels.

Experience, Skills, and Abilities Needed
- High school diploma or GED required
- At least 2 years of work experience, including 1 year of relevant experience, or 1 year at STERIS. All experience must be verifiable.
- Flexible schedule with early/late hours and occasional overnight or out-of-state travel.
- Ability to pass DOT medical/physical exam and comply with DOT regulations.
- Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record (no CDL required), and required vaccines.
- Ability to drive DOT-regulated vehicles and conduct basic safety checks.
- Must be at least 21 years old for interstate driving.
- Ability to lift up to 25 pounds and push instrument carts weighing 10-150 pounds.
- Compliance with hospital/customer credentialing requirements.
Relevant work experience includes: hands-on repair, assembly, or testing with small hand tools, electronics repair, carpentry, circuit board repair, sterile processing, automotive repair, etc.

Pay range: $25-26/hour, with eligibility for bonuses.
Minimum pay rates will meet local minimums if higher. Pay is based on experience, education, certifications, and other factors.
