Job summary

Siemens Repair Center in Wendell, NC seeks a hands-on Repair Center Technician to diagnose, repair, rework, test, and validate protection relays and related electronics returned via the RER process. You will evaluate products, select repair actions, document findings, and restore equipment to Siemens’ high standards of quality, safety, and reliability.

The role requires strong troubleshooting ability, experience with electronic repair in a fast-paced environment, and willingness to work flexible

Qualifications

  • Associate degree in Electronics or related field, or equivalent.
  • 4+ years of electronics repair or related technical experience.
  • Ability to sit, stand, and move throughout the workday.
  • Manual dexterity for detailed repair work.
  • Ability to lift up to 35 pounds.
  • Ability to read and interpret schematics and work instructions.
  • Experience using hand and power tools, diagnostic equipment.
  • Experience documenting repair activity in business or quality systems.
  • Strong attention to detail, quality and safety.
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and execute repair activities from evaluation through final test documentation.
  • Perform diagnostics, troubleshooting, repair, and rework of relays and electronic components.
  • Conduct qualified failure analysis to determine root cause and required validation steps.
  • Disassemble, repair, clean, reassemble, and validate returned products.
  • Load firmware and verify device configurations.
  • Use test equipment to ensure repairs meet performance and quality standards.
  • Document findings, actions, root cause, and test results in SAP, Salesforce, and other systems.
  • Collaborate with Customer Service, Quality, Engineering, Logistics on issues and status.
  • Contribute to updates of work instructions, procedures, and equipment docs.
  • Follow ESD controls and safety practices.

About Smart Infrastructure – Electrification And Automation

Siemens Smart Infrastructure, Electrification & Automation (EA) business unit is headquartered in Wendell, NC. The EA Business Unit has a diverse portfolio of products, including, but not limited to, low-voltage MCC, CMR fuse saver, MV switchgear, MV circuit breakers, metering, power monitoring, power quality, and protective relay maintenance and systems of a standard nature.

We are looking for a Repair Center Technician to join our team in Wendell, NC.

The RER Technician is responsible for the hands-on diagnosis, qualified failure analysis, repair, rework, testing, and validation of protection relays and related electronic equipment returned through Siemens' Return, Evaluation, and Repair (RER) process. This role supports customer and internal repair needs by independently evaluating returned products, determining appropriate repair actions, documenting technical findings, and restoring equipment to operational condition while maintaining Siemens' high standards for quality, safety, and reliability.

The ideal candidate has strong practical and theoretical knowledge of electronic troubleshooting and repair, can resolve non-routine technical issues using established procedures and sound technical judgment, and is comfortable working in a fast-paced manufacturing and service environment.

Willingness to work flexible hours as needed to support customer and production requirements.

Responsibilities:
  • Planning and executing assigned repair activities from initial evaluation through final test documentation.
  • Performing diagnostics, troubleshooting, repair, and rework of protection relays and related electronic components.
  • Performing qualified failure analysis on returned electronic products to determine root cause, repair approach, and required validation steps.
  • Disassembling, repairing, cleaning, reassembling, setting up, and validating returned products according to Siemens standards.
  • Loading firmware, updating software, and verifying device configurations as required.
  • Utilizing automated and manual test equipment to ensure repaired units meet performance, functionality, and quality requirements.
  • Applying troubleshooting methods, technical judgment, and established procedures to resolve non-routine repair issues.
  • Documenting repair findings, corrective actions, root cause information, and test results within SAP, Salesforce, and other business systems.
  • Communicating with Customer Service, Quality, Engineering, Logistics, and other internal stakeholders to clarify reported failures, repair status, technical findings, and customer needs.
  • Supporting updates to work instructions, repair documentation, test procedures, and equipment documentation.
  • Following ESD controls, safety requirements, and electronic repair best practices.
  • Supporting continuous improvement initiatives, 5S activities, and standard work development.
  • Assisting with incoming unit evaluations, repair prioritization, and workload management to meet turnaround time targets.
  • Providing technical guidance to less experienced technicians as needed.

Basic Qualifications:
  • Associate degree in Electronics, Electrical Technology, Industrial Technology, Mechatronics, or a related technical field; or equivalent combination of education, military training, technical certification, and relevant work experience.
  • 4+ years of experience in electronics repair, electrical troubleshooting, manufacturing, maintenance, field service, military electronics, or a related technical role.
  • Ability to sit, stand, bend, and move throughout the workday.
  • Ability to handle and transport materials, components, and equipment as required.
  • Manual dexterity is required for detailed repair work.
  • Ability to occasionally lift up to 35 pounds.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical documentation, schematics, assembly drawings, and work instructions.
  • Ability to apply practical troubleshooting methods, technical judgment, and established procedures to analyze and resolve product issues.
  • Experience using hand tools, power tools, measuring instruments, and diagnostic equipment.
  • Experience documenting repair activity, test results, technical findings, and corrective actions in business or quality systems.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality and safety.
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States on a continual and permanent basis without company sponsorship
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience repairing, testing, or troubleshooting protection relays (Siemens SIPROTEC, SEL, GE, ABB, or similar products).
  • Experience with PCB-level troubleshooting, soldering, board rework, and electronic component replacement.
  • Familiarity with relay testing equipment such as OMICRON, Doble, or Megger.
  • Experience with firmware updates, software configuration, or device parameterization.
  • Knowledge of electronic circuits, microprocessor-based systems, and electro-mechanical components.
  • Experience using SAP, Office 365, Salesforce, or similar business systems.
  • Understanding of ESD protection practices and electronic repair standards.
  • Experience in manufacturing, repair depot, service center, military electronics, or industrial maintenance environment.
  • Experience providing technical support or guidance to less experienced technicians.
  • Training or certification in Lean Manufacturing, 5S, or Continuous Improvement methodologies.
