Job summary

PG Aerotech in Hauppauge, NY seeks an experienced Design Engineer to prepare design data for electrical/electromechanical aircraft parts, using reverse engineering and coordinating with FAA DERs. You will develop automated test equipment and write detailed analysis reports to support certification.

Responsibilities include failure investigation, repair development, and producing FAA-compliant documentation while collaborating with engineering, certification, and sales teams to assess new project

Qualifications

• 5+ years of full-time relevant work experience in design, manufacturing, or quality.
• CAD/3D modeling design experience.
• Familiarity with aerospace specifications and processes.
• Experience with circuit board design and/or reverse engineering is a plus.
• Experience developing, planning, and implementing automated test equipment (ATE) and test procedures for electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic aircraft systems.
• Proficient in scripting or programming for test automation (e.g., Python, LabVIEW, VBA) a plus.
• Experience with analog and digital interfaces, electronic analysis techniques, and laboratory test equipment including oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and other related test equipment.
• Hands-on experience with data acquisition (DAQ) hardware and software such as NI/LabVIEW, MCC DAQ/DASYLab, and MATLAB.
• Demonstrated general knowledge of drafting standards.
• Proficient with SolidWorks, AutoCAD, MS Office applications, Adobe Acrobat.
• Experience in reverse engineering is desired.
• Shop time or other hands-on experience is preferred.
• Experience with avionics, communications, lighting, and/or electrical aircraft systems is preferred.
• Understanding and familiarity with FAA standards is preferred.
• Detail oriented and highly organized.

Description

The individual will prepare design data for electrical/electromechanical aircraft parts using reverse engineering practices and coordinate with certification and material engineers along with FAA Designated Engineering Representatives. They ensure that design features are consistent with functional performance and safety requirements for the aircraft system installation and with standard manufacturing practices. Additionally, the engineer investigates in-service equipment failures to determine root cause, develops repairs to return parts to service, and designs automated test equipment (ATE) and data acquisition systems to support repair development and part qualification. This requires close communication with the engineering and sales teams to evaluate new project feasibility.

Requirements

• Draft sketches and models of parts
• Conduct dimensional and electrical inspection of sample parts
• Prepare detailed dimensional and electrical analysis reports
• Research part function, failure modes, and operating conditions
• Determine appropriate material and performance specifications based on material analyses and testing
• Develop tolerance limits based on dimensional data, manufacturing capabilities, and part function
• Prepare production drawings using industry standards
• Troubleshoot failed in-service equipment to develop repair procedures for return to service
• Design, build, and validate automated test equipment (ATE) for electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic aircraft components
• Develop automated test scripts and data acquisition routines to support functional testing, failure analysis, and repair validation
• Analyze and interpret test data collected via DAQ systems to support engineering decisions and certification packages
• Provide engineering support for procurement, manufacturing, receiving, and certification of parts
• Create technical documents using FAA guidelines and regulations
• Work with Designated Engineering Representatives to deliver complete certification packages to the FAA

Experience and Skills
