Job summary

Shearer’s Foods in Massillon, OH is seeking a Repackaging/Variety Food Packaging Team Member for day, afternoon, or night shifts. The position pays $18.70 per hour, with $1.00/hr afternoon and $3.00/hr night shift premiums.

Responsibilities

Repackaging/Variety Food Packaging Team Member

Day shift 6:50am to 3:00pm (days off vary)

Afternoon Shift 2:50pm - 11:00pm (days off vary) - $1.00/Hr shift premium

Night Shift - 10:50pm - 7:00am (days off vary) $3.00/Hr shift premium

Pay Rate $18.70

The packaging operator team member position operates, packs and maintains a single packaging cell used to package snack foods. The team member must be able to work well with others within a dynamic, collaborative team environment. Performing essential work activities and ensuring safety and quality in a fast-paced manufacturing and warehouse environment.

Team member is responsible for the safe operation and maintenance related to packaging of product; monitoring and troubleshooting, starting and shutting down the packing machine; and preparing, cleaning, and maintaining the workplace. The Packaging Operator will take part in the shift kick-off meetings with the line team.

  • Safely Operates and maintains packaging equipment
  • Ensures that products are produced in accordance with quality specifications
  • Ensures packaging equipment produces safe, quality product at the desired rate
  • Inspects and monitors the machine before, during, and after the production process
  • Reads production schedule to determine quantities and types of products to be packaged and adjusts packaging rates accordingly
  • Regulates machine flow, speed, and/or temperature through adjustments of machine components, tensions, and pressure as needed
  • Completes all quality testing on the machine (i.e. code date verification, metal detector checks, seal checks)
  • Keeps key components of packaging equipment clean. Inspects for defects, fixes minor defects, and reports defects to the Packaging Machine Coordinator when assistance is needed
  • Reports and/or takes any necessary action to prevent food safety and food quality problems from occurring
  • Legibly fills out required forms and paperwork
  • Monitors and troubleshoots packaging machines
  • Ensures all safety devises are operating properly
  • Inspects verifies and adjust product weight or measurement to meet specifications
  • Observes machine operations to ensure quality and conformity of packaged products to standards
  • Monitors the production line, watching for problems such as pileups, jams, or glue that isn’t sticking properly
  • Inspects and removes defective products and packaging material
  • Listens for malfunction indicators
  • Shuts down machines when malfunctions occur
  • Clears machine jams
  • Cleans to inspect, finding defects
  • Troubleshoots the cause(s) of poor-quality products, improper weights (high or low), unacceptable finished package appearance, and machine breakdowns
  • Ensures packaging equipment is running at documented centerlines as the initial step of troubleshooting
  • Sets up, starts, and shuts down packaging equipment
  • Prepares, cleans, and maintains the workplace
  • Repackaging team members must also be able to effectively communicate instructions to fellow teammates, including but not limited to: Packaging Machine Coordinators, other Packer Operators, Packers, and or Processors.

  • The Repackaging team member must follow Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP’s) and Food Safety.

Qualifications

1-2 Years in Food Manufacturing/Packaging experience is preferred

Bag/Box manual packing experience a plus
