Job summary

Gillman Home Center is hiring a rental mechanic at our Winchester, IN location. The role involves cleaning and maintaining rental equipment, performing repairs, and handling contracts and payments at the rental counter.

You will also assist with deliveries, setup, and yard/store tasks as needed, with opportunities to gain Stihl certification and on‑the‑job training. A valid driver’s license is required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED is required.
• 1+ years of general machine maintenance experience.
• Valid driver’s license; chauffeur’s license preferred but not required.
• Stihl certification preferred; training provided.

Responsibilities

• Clean all rental equipment and keep it well-maintained.
• Perform repairs and maintenance; generate POs for repairs.
• Purchase small tools and supplies for repairs.
• Inspect equipment to comply with safety policies.
• Assist with DMV registration and insurance updates.
• Handle rental contracts, payments, and customer instruction at the counter.
• Deliver and pick up rental items as needed.
• Set up and take down rental equipment as requested.
• Assist in lumber yard and inside the store as needed.

Job description

The rental mechanic position is responsible for keeping all of our equipment clean and correctly maintained. This position will report to our WINCHESTER, IN store location.

Essential Functions:

• Provides excellent customer service to our internal and external customers.
• Cleans all rental equipment.
• Conducts repairs and maintenance on rental equipment; generates purchase orders for repairs or required maintenance.
• Purchases small tools and any supplies needed to repair the equipment.
• Inspects equipment on a regular basis to comply with company safety policies.
• Assists in updating DMV registration and current insurance.
• Checks out customers at the rental counter, including completing contracts, taking payment and instructing customer on how to use the item.
• Deliver and pick up rental items as needed.
• Set up and take down rental equipment if requested.
• Help load and unload equipment as needed.
• Help out in lumber yard and inside the store as needed.

Supervisory Responsibility:

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to outdoor weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; read, talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand and walk. The employee must regularly lift and move up to 10 pounds and frequently lift or move up to 50 pounds.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:

This is a full-time position, scheduled 40 hours per week. Days and hours of work can be between 7:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. Must be available to work weekends.

Travel:

Must have a valid drivers license to deliver and pick up rental equipment as needed.

Required Education and Experience:

• High school diploma or GED diploma or one to three years of related experience or training or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
• 1+ years knowledge of general machine maintenance.
• Valid Driver's License required. Chauffeur’s license preferred but not required.
• Stihl certification preferred, will provide training to obtain this certification.
