Job description

Description

As a Project Developer within Scout’s East Region Development Team, you will be fully responsible for leading your U.S.-based wind and solar projects through all development phases, focusing on early- to mid-stage activities. You will establish land control, coordinate interconnection applications, and facilitate environmental, permitting, and transmission reviews. Your goal is to deliver high-quality, profitable projects that meet all milestones. The East Region primarily focuses on the ERCOT, MISO, SPP, PJM, Southeast, and Northeastern U.S. power markets.

You will act as the primary contact for your projects, both externally and internally. Externally, you will build relationships with landowners, community members, regulators, and local officials to garner support:

  • Lead discussions with landowners, negotiate site control agreements, and secure planning/use permits.
  • Coordinate studies and manage external consultants to adhere to budget and schedule.
  • Communicate effectively with stakeholders, including government officials, landowners, and community members.
  • Drive negotiations and develop solutions to project-specific challenges.
  • Make informed decisions under challenging circumstances using data and experience.

Internally, you will collaborate with Scout teams to ensure project success:

  • Engage development, interconnection, origination, procurement, legal, resource assessment, accounting, GIS, and finance teams.
  • Incorporate team feedback to optimize project outcomes.
  • Set organizational goals and procedures aligned with business strategies.
  • Implement long-term strategies related to wind and solar development.
  • Manage project costs, terms, and schedules effectively.
  • Handle multiple projects concurrently.
  • Mentor and support the professional growth of Associate team members.

You will report directly to the Director of the East Region and work alongside internal and external experts to advance projects.

Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
  • 4+ years of wind and/or solar development experience.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the full utility-scale wind and solar project cycle, especially mid- to late-stage development.
  • Deep understanding of interconnection, permitting, real estate, regulations, utility procurement, politics, and law impacting renewable energy in the U.S.
  • Strong grasp of U.S. power markets and transmission systems.
  • Knowledge of economic factors influencing renewable projects.
  • Ability to clearly analyze issues, present recommendations, and communicate risks and benefits effectively in writing and verbally.
  • Skill in identifying development opportunities and assessing associated risks.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively across organizational levels and adapt to industry changes.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and GIS tools (e.g., Google Earth, ArcGIS).
  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S.
  • Willingness to work out of Boulder, CO (hybrid preferred) and travel 40-60% as needed.
