Job summary

Christian Hospital, part of BJC HealthCare, serves St. Louis and surrounding metro area. This RN position is on the 8th floor Renal/Telemetry unit with 24 semi-private rooms and a dialysis suite.

You will assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care with a strong focus on safety, family education and care coordination. The role advances nursing skills in a high-acuity environment; BSN preferred and nursing diploma/associate's degree required.

Qualifications

• RN licensure required.
• Nursing Diploma or Associate's degree required.
• BSN preferred; experience <2 years preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provides direct patient care including assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation and evaluation.
• Educates patients and families on illnesses, treatments and home care.
• Participates in patient safety, quality and regulatory compliance.
• Documents plans of care with defined goals in collaboration with the interprofessional team.
• Maintains communication across the care continuum and with patients, families, and caregivers.

Northwest HealthCare, six miles west of Christian, offers 24-hour emergency care, the Sleep Disorders Center and a variety of outpatient diagnostic and imaging services.

The 8th floor is a 44 bed Renal/Telemetry unit with 24 semi-private rooms and 1 private room with an adjacent dialysis suite where dialysis treatments are performed under a contractual agreement. The dialysis suite can accommodate 6 patients at any given time. There are 2 negative air-flow rooms on the unit. Any semi-private room can be made private for isolation purposes or to accommodate patient request. Patients admitted to the 8th floor are acutely ill with medical problems whose primary reason for admission include but are not limited to Renal Failure, CHF, Pneumonia, COPD, Sepsis, Dehydration, Diabetes Mellitus, MI, Angioplasty, S/P Cardiac Catheterization, Cardiac Arrhythmias, Direct Admits along with Post-op surgical patients.

Provides direct patient care activities including assessment, diagnosis, planning implementation, and evaluation within the guidelines of the standards of nursing care.

Responsibilities

• Promotes patient and family centered care in a healing environment. Educates patients and their families on how to manage their illness or injury, including post treatment home care needs and medication administration.
• Participates in activities that promote patient safety, quality and regulatory compliance. Participates in professional development.
• Develops, implements, and documents individual plans of care with defined goals in collaboration with other members of the interprofessional team and patient, family or caregiver in accordance with the established guidelines and standards of nursing care. Proactively plans and ensures communication of the plan of care across the continuum of care.
• Uses critical nursing skills to assess and evaluate physical, psychosocial, and emotional needs according to standards of care. Assess patient preferences and barriers to involvement in care, including their values, emotional, spiritual, cultural, and population-specific needs.
• BJC has determined this is a safety-sensitive position. The ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner is an essential function of this job.
