Job summary

Christian Hospital, part of BJC HealthCare, is seeking a patient care support role on the 8th floor Renal/Telemetry unit. You will work under licensed nurses to provide ADL assistance, monitor vital signs, and help maintain a safe, compassionate environment.

This role requires Certified Nurse Assistant certification and offers a 36-hour workweek with night shifts (7:00pm–7:30am), holiday rotation, and every other weekend scheduling.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Preferred CNA, nurse assistant, EMT, or surgical technician experience.
• Certified Nurse Assistant certification (required or preferred).

Responsibilities

• Implements direct patient care under the supervision of the nurse.
• Administers or assists with ADLs, vitals, intake/output, fall and pressure ulcer prevention, urinary catheter care, phlebotomy or point of care testing.
• Collects clinical data and reports changes to the nurse.
• Documents care activities with correct medical terminology and acts as 1:1 safety sitter as needed.
• Ensures supplies and equipment are available to meet patient needs.
• Participates in patient safety, quality and regulatory activities and professional development.

Northwest HealthCare, six miles west of Christian, offers 24- hour emergency care, the Sleep Disorders Center and a variety of outpatient diagnostic and imaging services.

The 8th floor is a 44 bed Renal/Telemetry unit with 24 sem8i-private rooms and 1 private room with an adjacent dialysis suite where dialysis treatments are performed under a contractual agreement. The dialysis suite can accommodate 6 patients at any given time. There are 2 negative air-flow rooms on the unit. Any semi-private room can be made private for isolation purposes or to accommodate patient request. Patients admitted to the 8th floor are acutely ill with medical problems whose primary reason for admission include but are not limited to Renal Failure, CHF, Pneumonia, COPD, Sepsis, Dehydration, Diabetes Mellitus, MI, Angioplasty, S/P Cardiac Catheterization, Cardiac Arrhythmias, Direct Admits along with Post-op surgical patients.

Role Purpose

Provides direct patient care to support the licensed professional nurses responsible for a team of patients to ensure a safe environment for patients by reducing risk of harm. Collects vital information on the patient and reports such to the nursing team which contributes to the overall assessment of each patient and any changes to a patient's condition.

Responsibilities

• Implements direct patient care under the supervision of the nurse, promoting patient and family centered care in a healing environment. Administers or assists patients with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), performs vital signs, intake & output, fall and pressure ulcer prevention measures, urinary catheter care, phlebotomy, or point of care testing as requested.
• Collects clinical data and information on patients, and reports changes in patient status to the nurse.
• Assists nurse with patient and family education. Documents all patient care activities provided with correct medical terminology. Acts as 1:1 patient safety sitter as necessary.
• Ensures availability of supplies and equipment to meet each patient's needs.
• Participates in activities that promote patient safety, quality and regulatory compliance. Participates in professional development.
