Job summary

Actalent seeks a Welding Engineer to lead design and process specifications for welded components, supporting both existing and new product development in the nuclear sector. This contract role is fully remote, based in the United States, with collaboration across project managers, design engineers, sourcing, and leadership to deliver high‑quality welded solutions.

You will oversee welding activities, perform metallurgical analysis, ensure compliance with ASME BPVC and AWS standards, and mentor

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Welding Engineering or equivalent.
• 8+ years engineering experience.
• Experience solving welded components/design problems.
• Strong mechanical aptitude.
• Ability to communicate technical content clearly to stakeholders.
• Strong written communication skills.
• Leadership experience with technical teams.
• Familiarity with stainless steel metallurgy.
• Knowledge of welding processes GTAW, GMAW, FCAW, SMAW, LBW.
• Familiarity with nuclear industry codes and GD&T.

Responsibilities

• Develop and optimize designs for welded components to support improvements and new products.
• Lead within a matrixed engineering team to meet customer and regulatory requirements.
• Perform metallurgical analysis of welds and conduct root-cause investigations.
• Apply welding processes (GTAW, GMAW, FCAW, SMAW, LBW) per codes and standards.
• Assist with weld joint design concepts and producibility assessments.
• Provide technical support to sourcing teams for fabrication interfaces.
• Troubleshoot welding issues and implement corrective actions.
• Prepare invention disclosures to protect proprietary welding technology.
• Create schedules and estimates for welding projects.
