Job summary

Premera Blue Cross is seeking an Underwriting Manager to lead a high-performing team and shape underwriting strategy from home. This remote role focuses on leadership, pricing, and policy development to support the organization's priorities.

You'll oversee budgeting, reporting, and collaboration with sales and account management, while maintaining strong knowledge of health insurance markets.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in business or related field, or 4+ years of work experience.
• 5+ years underwriting, regulatory, or health insurance consulting experience.
• Previous underwriting experience.

Responsibilities

• Develop and deploy management monitoring reports for financial and membership positions.
• Manage underwriting, pricing, and contracting activities to meet risk and profit objectives.
• Lead underwriting processes to meet turnaround goals and objectives.
• Recruit, hire, and train underwriting teams and manage performance appraisals.
• Oversee budget processes for assigned cost centers.
• Serve as primary internal contact for underwriting policy information.
• Support sales and account management in presentations and negotiations.
• Develop pricing data and contract generation systems to inform decisions.
• Assist senior management in sustaining long-term policies and procedures.
• Monitor data from internal departments for content and identify problems and solutions.
