Job summary

BNSF Railway's tech internship offers hands-on coding challenges and real project work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment. Remote from the US, you’ll join a team focused on safety, reliability, and innovation while gaining exposure to software engineering practices.

As a student intern, you will write production-quality code, participate in reviews, and learn how data, APIs, and automation drive rail operations.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Science or a related field.
• Experience programming in Java, C++, or C# with object‑oriented design.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills.

Responsibilities

• Write production-quality code for well-defined tasks.
• Follow team coding standards and processes.
• Participate in design reviews to learn best practices.
• Write and maintain unit/integration tests.
• Debug and fix straightforward issues.
• Develop APIs, automation, and tools to improve platform integration.
• Build and maintain monitoring and alerting systems for services.
• Collaborate with application teams to enhance reliability and performance.
• Design and operate scalable systems across data centers, edge devices, and the cloud.
• Work with BNSF teams to create products that improve rail network operations.
