Job summary

NORC's Education Department is seeking entry-level Survey Assistants to support the Survey of Doctorate Recipients and related data collection across multiple projects. The role offers remote or downtown Chicago office options, with 16–24 hours per week depending on project needs, at a rate of $21.00/hour.

Responsibilities include telephone/online outreach, data collection, quality checks, coding, and literature reviews, with emphasis on accuracy and timely delivery.

Qualifications

• High school diploma required or equivalent.
• Some college coursework or related academic experience.
• Outstanding interpersonal, critical reasoning, and writing skills.
• Strong problem-solving capabilities.
• Attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Effective communication in email, in person, videoconference and telephone.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks independently and in teams.
• Strong verbal and written communication for diverse audiences.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite.
• Foreign language proficiency is a plus (Chinese, Korean, Farsi, Hindi, Bengali, Eastern European languages, Turkish, Arabic, Thai, Japanese).

Responsibilities

• Conduct telephone and online research to obtain contact information and locations of sampled individuals.
• Respond to calls and emails from sample members requesting technical support or information.
• Resolve routine questions using standard procedures and escalate complex issues.
• Document and track requests to ensure timely resolution.
• Perform quality checks on outgoing contacts and incoming data.
• Code verbatim responses into existing code frames.
• Tabulate data collection results and production statistics.
• Review information for completeness and assist with clerical processing.
• Conduct literature reviews and help draft methodological reports.
• Support other data collection tasks as needed.
