Job summary

WSP is seeking a Substation Principal Engineer with power transformer expertise for Lake Oswego, OR or remote. Lead transformer engineering, mentor teams, and support business development across major electrical infrastructure projects.

You will review OEM submittals, guide design across lifecycle stages, and stay current with industry practices. This role emphasizes technical leadership, collaboration, and adherence to safety and QA standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or equivalent experience.
• 12+ years in electric power delivery and infrastructure design for capital projects.
• At least 10 years in power transformer design, acquisition, sourcing, maintenance, or operations (15kV–500kV).
• Experience with IEEE/ANSI transformer standards.
• Knowledge of transformer applications for utilities, renewables, BESS, and data centers.
• Experience reviewing documents and deliverables in multi-project environments.
• Experience with core/coils, pre-tanking, FAT.
• Strong electrical engineering fundamentals and project delivery methods.
• Self-directed and highly motivated; able to lead mid- to senior-level teams.
• Excellent leadership and communication skills; strong English writing and speaking.

Responsibilities

• Provide proactive leadership for power transformers and related engineering functions.
• Lead in technical business development.
• Develop technical specifications for power transformers and accessories.
• Support OEM transformer designs with technical input.
• Serve as liaison between project team, OEMs, and client.
• Coordinate with client project teams and internal disciplines.
• Direct and mentor other engineers; oversee QA/QC.
• Lead internal/external technical training and present white papers.
• Engage in leadership roles in technical societies.
