State Campaigns Associate

Position Summary

Powering Prosperity is seeking a proactive and resourceful professional to help advance state-based energy advocacy and support the development of innovative, market-oriented policy solutions.

The State Campaigns Associate is intentionally designed as a leadership development role. The Campaigns Associate will work closely with the Director of State Campaigns to support the execution of various state-based advocacy campaigns. This role will help coordinate campaign activities, track legislative and political developments, conduct research, maintain campaign plans and reporting, and work with consultants, lobbyists, coalition partners, and internal teams to keep campaigns moving forward.

What You’ll Do
  • Support the Director of State Campaigns in executing legislative and regulatory campaigns across three to five priority states.
  • Track legislative activity, regulatory developments, campaign milestones, political intelligence, and key deadlines across priority states.
  • Research state political landscapes, policymakers, stakeholder dynamics, market developments, and emerging issues relevant to campaign strategy.
  • Maintain campaign workplans, trackers, dashboards, and progress reports tied to defined goals and KPIs.
  • Coordinate meetings and activities with in-state consultants, lobbyists, coalition partners, policymakers, and other stakeholders.
  • Support coalition-building efforts by researching prospective partners, maintaining stakeholder information, coordinating outreach, and tracking follow-up.
  • Prepare background materials, briefing documents, presentations, meeting materials, and other resources for state campaigns.
  • Help coordinate lobbying days, legislative briefings, coalition meetings, hearings, events, and other campaign activities.
  • Work closely with policy and communications teams to deploy research, messaging, and campaign materials across priority states.
  • Monitor emerging state-level political, legislative, and market developments and surface relevant information to the Director of State Campaigns.
  • Travel to priority states to support campaign activities, meetings, events, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Take on cross-functional projects and additional responsibilities as Powering Prosperity grows.
What We're Looking For
  • 2–5 years of experience in political campaigns, legislative offices, government affairs, advocacy, public affairs, coalition building, or a related field, although we are more interested in exceptional talent and leadership potential than a specific number of years.
  • Strong political instincts and an interest in state-level policy and advocacy.
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to keep multiple campaigns, stakeholders, deadlines, and deliverables moving simultaneously.
  • Strong research, writing, and analytical skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and comfort working with policymakers, lobbyists, consultants, industry leaders, and coalition partners.
  • Ability to synthesize political and legislative developments into clear, actionable information.
  • Strong attention to detail and follow-through.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset and willingness to tackle whatever needs to get done in a startup environment.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with a largely remote team.
  • Willingness to travel regularly to support state campaigns.
Particularly Attractive Backgrounds Include
  • State legislative or governors’ offices
  • Political or issue advocacy campaigns
  • Government affairs or public affairs firms
  • State-based advocacy organizations
  • Trade associations
  • Think tanks or nonprofit policy organizations
  • Electric utilities
  • Oil and gas companies
  • Independent power producers
  • Energy infrastructure companies

Previous energy experience is a plus, but not a requirement. We'd rather hire someone who understands conservative politics and is excited to learn energy than someone who understands energy but lacks political instincts.

Location
  • Remote. Candidates should have reasonable access to an airport given the travel requirements of the position.
  • Preference may be given to candidates located in Washington, D.C. or one of Powering Prosperity’s priority markets (IN, LA, OH, OK, UT).
Compensation
  • Salary range: $90,000–$140,000, commensurate with experience, with performance-based compensation growth over time.
  • Competitive benefits package with flexible employment structure based on candidate and organizational needs.
