Job summary

Overstory is seeking a staff-level data engineering leader to architect the data platform behind an AI-powered vegetation and grid resilience product. The role focuses on large-scale geospatial and temporal pipelines, orchestration, and service-oriented architecture for ML-driven analytics.

You will set standards, drive architecture, and mentor engineers across data, ML, and product teams in a remote-friendly, globally distributed setup.

Qualifications

• 10+ years building production-grade data pipelines and systems at scale.
• Hands-on experience with Dagster in production, including asset-based orchestration, partitions, and sensors.
• Strong foundation in distributed systems, idempotency, backfills, and large-scale scientific data.
• Proven ability to lead architectural discussions and mentor engineers.
• Strong communication skills and collaboration across engineering, ML, and product teams.

Responsibilities

• Architect and evolve the orchestration layer with asset graphs, partitioning, quality checks, and scalable patterns.
• Design and maintain production pipelines for large geospatial and temporal datasets from ingestion to delivery.
• Lead system design across the data platform, defining service boundaries and data contracts.
• Drive service-oriented architecture and decoupled components for independent team deployments.
• Build event-driven workflows and durable messaging patterns.
• Establish observability, testing, and data quality frameworks to surface issues before customers.
