Job summary

Cache Financials Inc. is seeking a Staff Backend Engineer to own core infrastructure for account operations, investment workflows, money and securities movement, and external integrations.

You will design and evolve backend services, data models, and APIs, working with product, compliance, and other engineers to create observable, auditable, and safe systems in a distributed environment.

Qualifications

• 8+ years backend experience with reliability-critical systems.
• Experience designing, building, and operating distributed systems with databases and external services.
• Ability to reason about timeouts, retries, races, and duplicate/out-of-order events.
• Strong data-modeling and transactional reasoning.
• Experience with money-handling or equivalent domain where double-spend is unacceptable.

Responsibilities

• Own architecture and delivery of financial workflows across components.
• Define system boundaries, truth sources, invariants, and failure behaviors.
• Model long-running workflows with explicit states and clear action vs. fact.
• Design safe APIs and event processing for retries, duplicates, and out-of-order messages.
• Build durable processing with transactions, queues, idempotency, and recovery paths.
• Design auditable financial records and robust reconciliation paths.
• Improve observability, tooling, runbooks, alerts, and safe control mechanisms.
• Write design docs, lead architecture reviews, and trade-off discussions.
• Ship incrementally balancing customer impact, risk, maintainability, and speed.
