Job summary

Mercor is seeking a Bioinformatics & Computational Single-Cell Genomics Expert to design computational challenges for AI systems, working remotely 15–20 hours per week.

Ideal candidates have graduate training (MS/PhD or equivalent), strong Python skills, and proven experience with scientific software libraries. Proficiency with Linux/remote compute sandboxes is required; prior work with Scanpy, Scvelo, Squidpy and Gudhi is a plus.

Qualifications

• Graduate-level training in a relevant STEM field (MS, PhD, or equivalent research experience).
• Proven proficiency with scientific software libraries through research publications or professional work.
• Strong Python skills for writing problem setups and solution validators.
• Ability to work independently and refine designs based on feedback.
• Comfortable in a Linux/terminal environment with remote compute sandboxes.

Responsibilities

• Design challenging computational problems to test AI systems using real scientific software.
• Create problems requiring skilled use of specialized software like scanpy, scvelo, squidpy, and gudhi.
• Evaluate and refine problems through testing loops against state-of-the-art AI models.
• Develop problems that require strategic planning for experiments and queries to uncover hidden data.
• Work independently to refine problem designs based on feedback and improve AI model performance.
