Job summary

Mercor is seeking a Genomics & Cell Biology Specialist for a remote contract role. You will guide research and engineering teams to improve AI model performance in molecular cloning, design CRISPR and primer workflows, and develop data-quality standards.

The position requires a PhD in a relevant field, hands-on bench or computational experience, and availability for at least 20 hours per week on weekdays. Compensation is $70-$100 per hour.

Qualifications

• PhD in molecular biology, cell biology, genetics, genomics, synthetic biology, or biochemistry.
• Hands-on experience with PCR/qPCR, molecular cloning, CRISPR, cell-based assays, sequence analysis or functional genomics.
• Broad experience across organisms, model systems and methods.
• Comfortable using scientific software and AI tools; no coding required.

Responsibilities

• Guide research and engineering teams to close knowledge gaps and improve AI model performance in molecular cloning.
• Design challenging biology tasks, benchmarks, and training data; write accurate solutions.
• Evaluate AI model outputs and judgement on biology tasks; provide written feedback.
• Develop specifications and verification processes for biology data produced by external teams.
• Collaborate with other experts to ensure consistency and accuracy in training data.
