Job summary

Cherokee Federal is seeking a Remote Sensing Specialist III to operate sUAS, process high-resolution imagery, and develop geospatial products for field and research applications in the southeastern United States.

The role emphasizes independent technical judgment, field capability, and collaboration with scientists and partners in diverse environments, including office, lab, and remote field locations. A strong background in GIS, photogrammetry, and drone operations is essential.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in remote sensing, geography, geomatics, GIS, environmental science, natural resources, ecology, or a closely related field.
FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot certification required or ability to obtain upon hire.
Demonstrated experience with drone-based remote sensing, geospatial analysis, photogrammetry, and related tools.

Responsibilities

Obtain and maintain FAA Remote Pilot certification and DOI sUAS authorization.
Plan and execute drone flights compliant with FAA regulations and field procedures.
Process drone imagery into orthomosaics, DSMs, DTMs, and dense point clouds.
Develop GIS geodatabases and metadata in accordance with FGDC standards.
Collaborate with scientists and partners on project status and findings.
