Job summary

Intertwine Associates LLC seeks a Senior Scientist / Engineer to support federal agencies across synthetic biology, bioengineering, and life sciences. Qualifications

• PhD or equivalent advanced research experience in synthetic biology or related field.
• Subject-matter expertise in genetic circuit, cell engineering, engineered cell therapies, gene editing, nucleic acid therapeutics and delivery, protein engineering, microbial engineering, biomanufacturing, or AI-driven design.
• Ability to critically evaluate technical data, experimental plans, and development pathways.
• Experience translating complex scientific information into concise written and visual products for decision support.
• Experience working with academic, clinical, and/or industrial stakeholders in R&D.
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work across multidisciplinary teams.
• Excellent written and verbal communication with internal and external stakeholders.
• Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks; highly detail-oriented.

Responsibilities

• Support federal agencies and clients across synthetic biology and life sciences.
• Collaborate with program managers, agency leadership, and client teams to shape bold research initiatives.
• Provide direct technical support to R&D performer teams and stakeholders.
• Conduct landscape analyses and technical diligence on emerging capabilities and trends.
• Assess manufacturability, regulatory strategy, and adoption barriers of proposed approaches.
• Review proposals, milestones, and program risks; draft recommendations and briefing materials.
• Identify subject-matter experts and transition stakeholders across academia, industry, and government.
• Assist in program management tasks, including site visits and briefing materials.

Education

PhD in synthetic biology, bioengineering, molecular/cell biology, biochemistry, chemical engineering, immunology, microbiology

Advanced research experience

Excellent written and verbal communication
