Texas Oncology is seeking a full-time Remote Senior Pharmacy Technician - Prior Authorization & Patient Assistance to join our team. This role supports all Texas Oncology locations. As the largest community oncology provider in the country, we have over 600 providers across 280+ sites in Texas and southeastern Oklahoma. What does the Pharmacy Tech do?

This position involves obtaining pre-authorizations for self-administered medications, triaging patient calls to physicians, and coordinating with network pharmacies. It also includes reviewing insurance for medically integrated pharmacy dispense per house rules.

Responsibilities
  1. Contact insurance carriers to verify eligibility, benefits, and requirements.
  2. Request, track, follow up, and obtain prior authorization status from the Pharmacy Prior Authorization Specialist.
  3. Apply knowledge of medical terminology and general medical office procedures, including HIPAA regulations.
  4. Communicate insurance changes or trends within the team.
  5. Maintain productivity levels suitable for the department.
  6. Document all communications with providers and personnel in standardized formats.
  7. Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have:

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Five to seven years of pharmacy experience, including IV skills.
  • Preferred oncology background or extensive IV preparation experience.
  • IV certification preferred.
  • Certified Pharmacy Technician or State Pharmacy Board certification recommended.
  • Completion of an ASHP-accredited or community college-based program recommended.
  • Previous clinical setting experience preferred.
  • Extensive retail pharmacy experience strongly preferred.
Physical Demands

The physical requirements include manual dexterity, eye-hand coordination, reading measurements, sitting/standing for long periods, and occasionally lifting up to 40 lbs. Corrected vision and hearing are required.
