Job summary

UnitedHealthcare seeks a National Medical Director of Orthopedic and Musculoskeletal Programs to lead design, development and oversight of clinical programs that lower cost and improve quality of care across musculoskeletal procedures and related therapies. You will guide a small entrepreneurial analytics team and partner with executive leadership to scale value-based care initiatives.

The role requires strategic thinking, strong clinical credentials (MD, board-certified Orthopedics), and 10+

Qualifications

MD/DO with active medical license in at least one state.
Board certification in Orthopedics.
10+ years of clinical practice.
7+ years of healthcare leadership in a health plan or managed care environment.
5+ years of senior level management leading clinical operations.
Experience with utilization management, clinical decision support, post service review, and/or care management.

Responsibilities

Lead Clinical Strategy Design and Development for musculoskeletal programs to improve cost, quality and outcomes.
Identify pain points in utilization management and drive innovative solutions with clinical operations and technology teams.
Direct healthcare analytics efforts to assess feasibility, outcomes and program impact.
Communicate clinical strategy to executives and external stakeholders with clear, concise messaging.
Build cross-functional relationships to support expansion of value-based programs across the enterprise.
Contribute to care pathway development and policy guidance through clinical committees and stakeholder input.
