Job summary

Optum, part of UnitedHealth Group, seeks a Senior Inpatient Medical Coder/Acute Edits and Denials Claims Analyst to work remotely from anywhere in the U.S. You will correct CCIs, MUE edits, and medical necessity edits while applying ICD-10-PCS and DRG rules to inpatient records.

You will query providers, analyze records, and support denial management with a focus on high-quality coding and compliant billing practices.

Qualifications

• Associate's degree required and maintained annually.
• Coder credentials from AHIMA or AAPC required at hire and renewed each year.
• Minimum 2+ years of coding experience in acute inpatient settings.
• Experience with Inpatient MS-DRG/APR-DRG coding and ICD-10-PCS.

Responsibilities

• Edit, recode and analyze acute inpatient hospital records for accuracy.
• Query physicians for documentation to support code assignments.
• Identify and address documentation gaps to improve coding quality.
• Handle denials, 3-day rule combinations and related queues.
• Collaborate on charging/documentation requirements; participate in special projects.
• Ensure compliance with coding policies and payer workflows.
• Work remotely from anywhere in the United States.
