What to Expect (Job Responsibilities):
- Review, analyze, and interpret clinical documentation to apply appropriate ICD-10-CM/PCS coding
- Verify CAC codes and ensure diagnostic and procedure codes are supported by clinical documentation
- Communicate effectively with physicians and allied health personnel regarding documentation needs
- Discuss optimization and documentation issues with physicians to ensure accurate coding and reimbursement
- Apply various coding systems while understanding their impact on clinical quality and reimbursement
What is Required (Qualifications):
- High school diploma and two years of coding education (medical coding certificate program or 2-year HIM program)
- Minimum of five (5) years of inpatient hospital coding experience, including specialized coding skills
- Certification required: RHIA, RHIT, CCS, or CIC
- Proficiency in medical terminology, anatomy & physiology, and pathophysiology
- Thorough understanding of Official Coding Guidelines and medical necessity
How to Stand Out (Preferred Qualifications):
- Experience in specialized coding areas such as cardiovascular surgery, neurosurgery, and trauma surgery
- Leadership experience or mentorship capabilities within a coding team
