Job summary

United Natural Foods, Inc. (UNFI) seeks a Director of Food Safety & Quality Assurance to lead world-class food safety across assigned regions. You will be the subject matter expert, developing teams, aligning policies, audits, and training with regulatory requirements and SQF standards.

You will collaborate with Operations Leadership to address weaknesses, drive continuous improvement, and support recall and food defense programs while assisting with media communications when needed.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Food Science, Public Health, or related field preferred.
• HACCP, Preventive Controls Qualified Individual, and/or SQF Practitioner certifications highly desired.
• 10+ years of leadership experience in food manufacturing, wholesale, and/or distribution programs.

Responsibilities

• Promote, communicate, and enforce our food safety programs to ensure a strong safety culture.
• Advise Operations Leadership on weaknesses and challenges in food safety and collaborate on remediation.
• Maintain regulatory compliance with state, federal, and local agencies for DC operations.
• Lead distribution center food safety and sanitation efforts with Merchandising and Operations.
• Ensure compliance with Federal, state, local regulations and SQF standards.
• Provide direction to distribution teams on up-to-date food safety policies and procedures.
• Develop and execute food safety, food defense, and recall plans and processes.
• Systematize ongoing improvements to food safety practices across the organization.
• Collaborate with operations during new construction or DC enhancements to meet regulatory expectations.
• Assist media relations and customer call center on food safety and quality issues.
• Travel 50-75% as required.
