Job summary

Senior DBA with a focus on PostgreSQL/MySQL on Amazon RDS is required for a remote contract supporting a Federal Office of Child Support Enforcement program. The role involves designing scalable database solutions, automating deployments, and driving performance improvements while coordinating with cross-functional teams.

Candidate must hold United States citizenship or permanent residency with an active Public Trust clearance.

Qualifications

• Experience creating and administering AWS Glue databases and Athena tables.
• Experience with AWS services such as Lambda, Lake Formation, QuickSight, DynamoDB, Redshift, MSK/Kafka, Kinesis, ElastiCache, and OpenSearch.
• Experience with containerization such as Docker or Kubernetes, including PostgreSQL and MySQL workloads on Amazon ECS or Amazon EKS, or via RDS Proxy.
• Experience supporting Java and PySpark applications.
• Experience developing and executing Ansible scripts.

Responsibilities

• Analyze business and technical requirements to propose database solutions for online and batch Java-based and AWS Glue/Apache Spark-based systems.
• Coordinate with teams to define system requirements, data flows, and testing support for database components.
• Design and deploy scalable PostgreSQL and MySQL solutions on Amazon RDS, and recommend schema and data model improvements.
• Create, deploy, and maintain database scripts, stored procedures, tables, triggers, and materialized views using Python, Shell, Ansible, and CloudFormation.
• Manage database operations including upgrades, restores, schema changes, user management, failover, DR, and replication.
• Communicate and coordinate database changes with management, developers, and users.
• Assess and improve capacity and performance, including right-sizing RDS instances and storage autoscaling.
• Maintain a central repository of data architecture artifacts and security controls.
• Maintain and test backup and recovery strategies for applications and databases.
• Perform troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and issue resolution.
• Monitor database health and resource utilization using CloudWatch Database Insights.
