Job summary

Horizon3 is hiring a Staff Engineer for the DB Platform team to architect and operate data stores powering the NodeZero platform. You will set the technical direction for PostgreSQL, graph databases, and time-series stores, and you will write production code, design architecture, and mentor engineers to raise the data capabilities as data volumes grow.

The role reports to the Data Platform Engineering Manager and requires hands-on experience with large-scale databases, Kubernetes deployments,

Qualifications

• 8+ years of professional software engineering experience with deep specialization in database systems and data infrastructure.
• Expert-level PostgreSQL proficiency with production query plans, replication, vacuum, and locking issues.
• Understanding of normalization vs. denormalization, indexing, partitioning, and pooling at scale.
• Experience designing zero-downtime migrations in high-volume production environments.

Responsibilities

• Database Architecture: set technical direction for Horizon3's database systems across schemas and data models.
• Performance Engineering: own query performance, execution plans, and observability to catch regressions.
• Reliability & Operations: manage replication, failover, backups, capacity planning, and incident response.
• Migration Engineering: design zero-downtime migrations and reversible changes.
• Cross-team Enablement: review schemas and patterns; define safe access patterns.
• Mentorship: guide engineers through design and code reviews.
