Job summary

Horizon3.ai is seeking a Principal Engineer for the Database Platform to anchor NodeZero’s data infrastructure. As a hands-on IC, you’ll define and own database architecture, ensure data isolation across a multi-tenant environment, and drive scalable design decisions for millions of assets and vulnerabilities.

You will write production code in Go or Python, author design documents, and raise the engineering bar across the team. Travel up to 5% may be required for cross-team collaboration.

Qualifications

• Deep, production-proven PostgreSQL expertise: query planner internals, indexing, partitioning, replication, vacuuming, connection pool tuning.
• Experience architecting multi-tenant databases at scale with tenant isolation and schema-per-tenant vs shared-schema tradeoffs.
• Experience with schema migrations at scale in production systems: zero-downtime migrations and backwards-compatible evolution.
• Familiarity with graph data models and databases (Neo4j, AWS Neptune) or graph-like patterns in relational systems.
• Proficient in Go or Python—able to write production application code, not just SQL.

Responsibilities

• Technical Strategy: Define and drive the technical roadmap for the Database Platform in partnership with leadership.
• Architecture Leadership: Own complex database architecture decisions and produce design documents.
• PostgreSQL Excellence: Set standards for scaling, partitioning, replication, and performance.
• Graph & Multi-model Data: Guide evolution of a graph-based asset model across pentests.
• Schema Governance: Own safe, reversible migrations and tooling for schema changes.
• Mentorship & Bar Raising: Mentor engineers through code and design reviews.
• Cross-functional Influence: Define data contracts and guardrails across the data pipeline.
