Job summary

TEKsystems is seeking a Senior Data Scientist to design and implement Document AI, OCR, and NLP solutions that convert unstructured wildlife records into structured data for conservation, compliance, and regulatory decisions. The role focuses on cloud-based AI capabilities and scalable data processing within a federal modernization program.

Qualifications

• Production ML development and deployment experience.
• Strong NLP experience.
• Advanced Python development skills.
• Strong SQL and PostgreSQL experience.
• Experience with AWS cloud environments.
• Experience with OCR/IDP/document understanding tech.
• Experience with predictive modeling and information extraction.
• Experience evaluating model performance and improving accuracy.
• Ability to obtain a U.S. Government Position of Public Trust.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop OCR and Document AI solutions for large collections of records.
• Build ML and NLP models to extract and structure unstructured data.
• Create document understanding workflows for classification and entity identification.
• Develop confidence scoring and exception-handling workflows.
• Support human-in-the-loop review to improve data quality.
• Evaluate model performance with precision, recall, and error analysis.
• Build reproducible ML pipelines with lineage and validation.
• Develop solutions for reconciliation across permits, applicants, species, and records.
• Collaborate with data architects, SMEs, analysts, and engineers.
• Support AWS-based AI and data processing solutions.
